Purple seed stain

scouted Nov. 6, 2020

Scientific Name
Cercospora kikuchii
Background
Soybeans in Wayne county, variety Dynagro 5878, were scouted and observed plants aborted with no pods. 90% of plants are very small, the remaining are two times as tall but all plants have very few pods.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as Purple seed stain caused by the fungus Cercospora kikuchii. Seeds will have purple or pink spots stretching from the hilum. While the crop value will be reduced, yield is unaffected. This disease is caused by warm and wet weather at the time and after flowering.
