Cercospora leaf spot

scouted Aug. 25, 2023

Scientific Name
Cercospora kikuchii
Background
Edamame soybeans in Lenoir county, variety Asgrow AG54XFO, were scouted and observed 5% of field affected by yellowing, and leaf spots, in random parts of the field. Spotting was noticed in the mid/upper canopy. They soybeans were in the early pod stage. The site is dry and sunny.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as Cercospora blight of soybean. This disease is caused by the pathogen Cercospora kikuchii and although it's common in soybeans it rarely causes significant yield losses in North Carolina. Chemical management and cultural practices are both options to control Cercospora leaf blight.
