- Soybeans in Lenoir county was scouted and observed 25% of field was affected by dieback, yellowing between the veins, and wilting. The youngest leaves on top of plant wither and die first. The site is high area, dry, and sunny.

- The issue was identified as charcoal rot of soybean, caused by Macrophomina phaseolina. It starts out with patches of stunted or wilted plants, while the infection can happen very early in the season, the symptoms usually appear after flowering.
