Spider mites

scouted Sept. 8, 2021

Scientific Name
Tetranychidae
Background
Soybeans in Onslow county were scouted and observed with 5% of the field affected by defoliation, yellowing in a mottle pattern, leaf spots, as well as scorch and burn in patches throughout the field. The field was in a low, sunny, and dry site.
Conclusion
The leaves from this fields were diagnosed from damage of spider mites. These arachnids kill individual cells by piercing them. The damage is often seen as specks of white, yellow, or brown stipples on the leaves. Population increases in hot and dry conditions. Some insecticides cause spider mites to have more offspring due to the fact they are not insects.
