Soybeans in Martin county were scouted by grower and it was observed that 30% of the field was affected by defoliation while other leaves showed patches of brown leaf spots. A sample was submitted to the PDIC.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as seed decay and pod blight, caused by Diaporthe/Phomopsis complex, while not a common occurrence in North Carolina, warm wet weather just preceding or at crop maturity can increase the likelihood of these kind of damages.
