Corn Earworm, Corn earworm affected by Nuclear polyhedrosis virus

Background
Soybeans were scouted in Wayne and Robeson county, and corn earworms were observed. It was noted that the population was high but still below economic threshold. The earworms were also found dried.
Conclusion
The dried up earworms were dried because they were affected by the nuclear polyhedrosis virus. Occlusion bodies of this virus have been used as a biological control insecticide that has been proven effective in managing corn earworm.
