- Soybeans in Guilford county were scouted and observed with 65% of the field being affected by widespread wilting and decay between the veins of the upper and lower leaves.
- Conclusion
- The issue was identified as Pythium root rot and/or Pythium crown rot. This disease is caused by Pythium sp. Pythium root rot and crown rot can result in both pre- and post-emergence damping-off, leading to delayed emergence and stunting of infected seedlings. Prevalence tends to increase in warm and moist, but not saturated soils. This pathogen is an oomycete.
