Fusarium crown and stem rot

scouted Sept. 6, 2021

Scientific Name
Fusarium sp.
Background
Soybeans in Iredell county were scouted and observed with 5% of the field being affected by dieback, browning, reddening, and yellowing in patches. The site was sunny.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as Fusarium root rot and Fusarium crown rot. Fusarium root rot is caused by Fusarium sp. Fusarium root rot can result in both pre- and post-emergence damping-off, leading to delayed emergence and stunting of infected seedlings. Fusarium crown rot can cause soybean seedling diseases, especially with wet conditions shortly after planting. These are more prevalent in poorly drained or compacted soils. Improving soil drainage may reduce stress and risk of infection.
