Soybeans in Hyde county, variety DynaGro S62XT09, were scouted and observed 100% of the field was affected widespread by leaf spot, speckling, and stippling. This is in a test plot. Plants don't seem to be senescing like they should. The leaves are turning black and seed quality is poor. There seems to be some orange pustules on the underside of the leaves.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as Cercospora blight of soybean. This disease is caused by the pathogen Cercospora kikuchii and although it's common in soybeans it rarely causes significant yield losses in North Carolina. Chemical management and cultural practices are both options to control Cercospora leaf blight.
