Background
Corn of variety DKC 69-99/DKC 68-35 was being scouted in Duplin county and it was observed 30% field was affected by root rot and stem rot in random patches and strips. some corn was root and stalk logged. The 69-99 was more stalk lodge, where as the 68-35 had more root lodge. The sample was taken to PDIC for testing to know the reason behind lodging.
Conclusion
The cause for this was found out to be environmental issue. Although disorder due to abiotic factors are not contagious, it can severely damages the plants. Deficiencies or excess of moisture, light, and temperature can leads to abiotic problems. Yellowing, poor vigor, lodging and dieback can be the major indicator of environment problems that the plants are dealing with.
