Charcoal rot

Macrophomina phaseolina
Background
Soybeans in Washington county, variety AG59X9, were scouted and observed browning and yellowing along and between the veins, ring spot/shot hoe/frog eye. There is yellowing and browning of the leaves occurring mainly on the upper most leaves. The is also insect damage on the pods.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as charcoal rot of soybean, caused by Macrophomina phaseolina. It starts out with patches of stunted or wilted plants, while the infection can happen very early in the season, the symptoms usually appear after flowering.
