- Field corn was being scouted in Wake county and it was observed that 25% of the field was affected by leaf spot, which was planted around july 30. Its third year of corn with clover as cover crop. Though owner says there was no spray but looked like chemical burn along with Holcus or other leaf spot. Owner spot applied 33-0-0 for growth and a sample was submitted to the PDIC for diagnosis.
- Conclusion
- The cause for this was identified as southern corn leaf blight. It is caused by fungus, Bipolaris maydis. The symptoms are tan lesions,rectangular shaped with reddish- brown margins on the leaves. It have 2 race O and T . Race O which generally attacks leaves whereas the race T attacks leaves,husks,stalks,leaf sheaths, shanks,ear, and cobs.
