Sixspotted thrips

Scientific Name
Scolothrips sexmaculatus
Background
A soybean field, variety AG54XFO, was being scouted, and it was observed that 50% of the field was affected by blight, canker, defoliation, and dieback. A sample was submitted to the PDIC for diagnosis.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as six-spotted thrips, Scolothrips sexmaculatus. This predatory thrips species feeds on spider mites of all stages, although it prefers immatures. They can usually be found in plants infested with spider mites.
