- Soybeans in Iredell county, variety P 48A94PR, were scouted and observed 100% of field was affected by cracks, leaf spots. root rot and stunting as well as root swelling. The site was widespread and sunny. Boring chewing and scar from possible insect damage was also present. Suspected of deer damage also.
- Conclusion
- The issue was identified as charcoal rot of soybean, caused by Macrophomina phaseolina. It starts out with patches of stunted or wilted plants, while the infection can happen very early in the season, the symptoms usually appear after flowering.
