Fall armyworm in Corn

Background
Non BT corn at V10 growth stage in Washington county was scouted, and some insect damage was observed at around 1% incidence rate for this particular field.
Conclusion
The problem was identified as fall army worm by extension specialist in the field. Fall armyworm does not overwinter in North Carolina, the moths migrate into the state every year. The most utilized tactic to avoid losses to this insect is to not plant late and avoid late maturing hybrids.
