- Soybeans in Durham county were scouted and observed 5% of the field was affected by localized blight, gum/slime/ooze/wet wood, and stem rot. The crown and stem are affected.
- Conclusion
- The issue was identified as Pythium root and crown rot. This disease is caused by Pythium sp. Pythium root rot and crown rot can result in both pre- and post-emergence damping-off, leading to delayed emergence and stunting of infected seedlings. Prevalence tends to increase in warm and moist, but not saturated soils. This pathogen is an oomycete.
