Corn at R5 was scouted in Tyrrel county, and spotted leaves were observed and a sample was submitted to the PDIC.
Conclusion
The cause for the spots was diagnosed as Curvularia leaf spot. Curvularia leaf spot is caused by a fungus. It's lesions tend to occur on corn leaves following rain during reproductive maturity. In the U.S., it's considered mostly an aesthetic issue than a yield limiting disease.
