Rhizoctonia root rot

Background
Soybeans in Pasquotank county, variety Pioneer P42A96X, were scouted and observed 2% of the field was affected by dieback in random areas. the site is low and high area. The inner part of the stem is tan in color with sick plants and good plants are white. No noticeable lesions on outside of stem even at the soil line. The soybeans were planted early April, preplant N (20), P (40), and K (100) per acre and at planting 11-37-0 was used in 2X2 at 5 gallons per acre with 5 gallons water.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as Rhizoctonia root rot. This disease is caused by Rhizoctonia solani. Rhizoctonia root rot can result in both pre- and post-emergence damping-off, leading to delayed emergence and stunting of infected seedlings. Prevalence tends to increase in warm and moist, but not saturated soils.
