- Soybeans in Craven county, variety Moysoy 5607, were scouted and observed with 5% of the field being affected by canker and dieback localized in patches as well as poor nodulation. The site was in a high, sunny, and dry area.
- Conclusion
- The issue was identified as Pythium root rot and/or Pythium crown rot. This disease is caused by Pythium sp. Pythium root rot and crown rot can result in both pre- and post-emergence damping-off, leading to delayed emergence and stunting of infected seedlings. Prevalence tends to increase in warm and moist, but not saturated soils. This pathogen is an oomycete.
