Soybeans in Wilson county, variety P54A36SX, were scouted and observed 15% of the field was affected by whole leaves browning and some leaf spots. These soybeans were planted on organic land behind wheat.
Conclusion
This issue was identified as bollworms. This species emerges from the soil as a moth in early May and completes at least two generations, primarily in wild hosts and field corn, before flying to blooming cotton and soybeans. All varieties should be scouted regularly when any sort of adult moth activity is detected, but especially during major flight events. These usually occur in mid-July (southern counties) to late July or early August (northern counties).
