- Scientific Name
- Soil compaction
- Background
- A corn field was being scouted, and it was observed that 15% of the field was affected by yellowing, stunting, and wilting in patches and stripes. The site is sunny and dry, and in a high area. A sample was submitted to the PDIC for diagnosis.
- Conclusion
- The issue was identified as soil compaction. Soil compaction is a process that reduces the space between soil particles, which then limits air and water movement within the soil. Root growth is limited, available water decreases, and nutrient uptake is reduced.
