Fusarium crown and stem rot

scouted Sept. 7, 2021

Scientific Name
Fusarium sp.
Background
Soybeans in Craven county, variety Moysoy 5607, were scouted and observed with 5% of the field being affected by canker and dieback localized in patches as well as poor nodulation. The site was in a high, sunny, and dry area.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as Fusarium crown rot and Fusarium stem rot. Both diseases are caused by Fusarium sp. Fusarium crown rot can cause soybean seedling diseases, especially with wet conditions shortly after planting. These are more prevalent in poorly drained or compacted soils. Improving soil drainage may reduce stress and risk of infection. Fusarium stem rot prefers cooler temperatures and wet soil in the early growing season. Soybean root-knot nematodes and Soybean cyst nematodes enhance the Fusarium infection. To prevent infection plant in well draining soil.
