Potassium deficiency

scouted Sept. 18, 2023

Scientific Name
Abiotic
Background
Soybeans in Harnett county were scouted and 90% of the field was observed to be affected by yellowing. The site location is on new ground that was previously pasture.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as potassium deficiency. Potassium deficiency usually presents as yellowing, reddening, and dying leaf margins on older leaves during vegetative growth and on upper leaves during grain fill. Stunted plants and/or slow growth is common. Since K uptake is diffusion driven, deficiency may be more often seen under drought conditions.
