- Scientific Name
- Cercospora kikuchii
- Background
- Soybeans in Union county, variety AS54FXO, were scouted and observed 10% of the field was affected by browning and yellowing, leaf spots, and wilting. These symptoms were widespread in the upper leaves for the most part. Stink bugs on the top plant leaves, pods, eggs, and egg bearing structure for a large stink bug hatch out. The site has a large stink bug infestation.
- Conclusion
- The issue was identified as Cercospora blight of soybean. This disease is caused by the pathogen Cercospora kikuchii and although it's common in soybeans it rarely causes significant yield losses in North Carolina. Chemical management and cultural practices are both options to control Cercospora leaf blight.
