Soybeans in Stanly county were scouted and it was observed that 10% of field was affected by yellowing in patched. The site is a low area and wet. Wheat appeared to have a problem in this location as well. This area pools water.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as Rhizoctonia stem rot. These fungi can result in both pre- and post-emergence damping-off, leading to delayed emergence and stunting of infected seedlings. Rhizoctonia prefer warm and moist soil conditions.
