Fusarium root rot

Background
Soybeans in Onslow county were scouted and observed 10% of the field was affected by browning and yellowing between the veins, malformation, stem rot, stunting, random patches in the field. The base of the stems are darker and have a girdled appearance. Roots are "J" shaped or twisted with no nodulation. The site is high area, dry, and sunny. There was heavy rainfall followed by a prolonged period of dry weather after planting.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as Fusarium root rot. This disease is caused by Fusarium sp. Fusarium root rot can result in both pre- and post-emergence damping-off, leading to delayed emergence and stunting of infected seedlings.
