Background
Soybeans in Johnston county were scouted and observed 25% of the field was affected by damping off in patches. The area most affected appears to have potash deficiency.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as Rhizoctonia root rot. This disease is caused by Rhizoctonia sp. Rhizoctonia root rot can result in both pre- and post-emergence damping-off, leading to delayed emergence and stunting of infected seedlings. Prevalence tends to increase in warm and moist, but not saturated soils.
