Spider mites

scouted July 24, 2024

Scientific Name
Tetranychidae
Background
Soybeans in Rowan County were scouted and it was observed that 40% of the field is affected by browning and reddening.
Conclusion
The leaves from this field show damage of spider mites. These arachnids kill individual cells by piercing them. The damage is often seen as specks of white, yellow, or brown stipples on the leaves. The population increases in hot and dry conditions. Some insecticides cause spider mites to have more offspring due to the fact they are not insects.
