Abiotic factors

scouted May 12, 2026

Scientific Name
Abiotic
Background
A corn field was being scouted, and it was observed that 20% of the field was affected by bleaching and browning in spots. The issue is widespread. The site is dry. A sample was submitted to the PDIC for diagnosis.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as abiotic factors. Potential abiotic factors that can produce similar foliar spotting and stress symptoms include environmental stress such as heat stress, drought or moisture fluctuations, nutrient imbalance, herbicide drift or injury, or other physiological stressors. Continued field monitoring and review of recent environmental and management conditions are recommended to help narrow down the cause if symptoms persist or progress.
