Lesion Nematodes

scouted July 1, 2025

Background
An entire field of soybeans has less than 30% of emergence, seeds are rotting in the ground before germination. Samples were submitted to the PDIC in hopes of identifying the problem.
Conclusion
Lesion nematodes of soybean were identified as the issue. Lesion nematodes belong to the genus Pratylenchus and may cause economic damage in soybean production systems. When nematodes population levels are low, above ground symptoms may not be present, and when they are, they can be easily confused with nutrient and draught stress. When large lesion nematode populations are present the plants may dieback.
