- Soybeans in Hyde county, variety Pioneer, were scouted and observed 3% of the field was affected by dieback, browning and yellowing, and root rot in localized patches. The site is low area and wet.
- Conclusion
- The issue was identified as Pythium root rot. This disease is caused by Pythium sp. Pythium root rot and crown rot can result in both pre- and post-emergence damping-off, leading to delayed emergence and stunting of infected seedlings. Prevalence tends to increase in warm and moist, but not saturated soils. This pathogen is an oomycete.
