Pythium root rot

Background
Soybeans in Hyde county, variety Pioneer, were scouted and observed 3% of the field was affected by dieback, browning and yellowing, and root rot in localized patches. The site is low area and wet.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as Pythium root rot. This disease is caused by Pythium sp. Pythium root rot and crown rot can result in both pre- and post-emergence damping-off, leading to delayed emergence and stunting of infected seedlings. Prevalence tends to increase in warm and moist, but not saturated soils. This pathogen is an oomycete.
