- Scientific Name
- Green stem syndrome
- Background
- Soybeans in Tyrell County were being scouted, and it was observed that 85% of a field was affected by green stems, which was widespread, and the site is in a low area. Green stems spread across almost the entire field. A field of the same variety, treated the same way, not even a 1/4 mile down the road, was healthy and able to be harvested.
- Conclusion
- The issue was identified as Green Stem Syndrome. Green stem is a term for a soybean plant with non-normal senescence resulting in the stem remaining green (and sometimes retaining leaves) when generally other parts of the plant have senesced (most leaves have dropped, pods and seed are mature).
