Chemical injury

scouted Sept. 28, 2022

Scientific Name
Abiotic
Background
Soybeans in Vance County were scouted, and it was observed that 5% of the field was affected by damping-off, defoliation, and stunting. The impacted soybeans were located within a 25-acre section that had been sprayed by a chemical company. The soybeans in the sprayed area exhibited stunted growth.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as chemical injury. Injury can result from off-target movement, excess doses, contaminated soil, or the use of the wrong herbicide for the site or crop. Environmental conditions such as cold and wet soil can also increase the potential for soybean injury.
