- A soybean field in Wayne County was being scouted, and it was observed that 90% of the field was affected by defoliation, dieback, browning, and yellowing. The issue is widespread throughout the field. The entire field was sprayed with foliar fertilizer at an angle. A sample was submitted to the PDIC for diagnosis.
- Conclusion
- The issue was identified as phytotoxicity. Environmental conditions at the time of application, including high temperatures, bright sunlight, or interactions between fertilizer components and spray additives, may have increased the likelihood of leaf injury. While nutrient imbalances or spray solution pH may contribute to phytotoxicity, the symptoms observed are more suggestive of chemical injury than an infectious disease.
