A recently transplanted tobacco field (Variety 987) was being scouted, and some localized wilting was observed. 6-20-6 fertilizer was applied in the transplant water. There's suspicion of salt injury, but a sample was submitted to the PDIC for diagnosis.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as abiotic stress, likely related to sun or heat injury. This type of damage can occur when seedlings are transferred directly from greenhouse conditions to the field without proper acclimatization. The sudden exposure to higher light intensity, temperature fluctuations, and wind can result in dessiccation and injury to tender meristematic tissue.
