Aspergillus ear rot

Background
Corn was being scouted in Robenson County, and it was observed that 70% of the field had affected ears. The ears of corn showed signs of disease and a sample was submitted to the PDIC for diagnosis.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as Aspergillus ear rot caused by Aspergillus Flavus. This fungus favors hot and dry conditions after pollination. It typically infects corn after injury and/or stress. Aspergillus Flavus produces aflatoxins, which are carcinogenic and toxic negatively affecting the health of livestock and humans is consumed. This species appears a green powdery mold on ears.
