Soybeans in Rowan county were scouted and it was observed that 50% of the field was affected by leaf spots, in random areas. New growth on the plants were curled shriveled. The older leaves seem unharmed. Some leaf spots were noticed. The pods don't seem to be bothered.
Conclusion
The issue was identified as charcoal rot of soybean, caused by Macrophomina phaseolina. It starts out with patches of stunted or wilted plants, while the infection can happen very early in the season, the symptoms usually appear after flowering.
